How To Wear Skinny Jeans

So a week or so ago, anonymous brought up the interesting question of how should one wear skinny jeans.Skinny jeans are quite "the" thing this season. I myself have bought a pair of skinny jeans a couple months ago. They are by Joe's, entitled the "cigarette leg" and comes with a delightful little necklace with "cigarette leg" emblazoned on it. Can't quite find a picture of them, but they are at the stores.

As to how to wear them, well there is the typical way of wearing them-tucked into your boots. I mean, the design of them does make it amazingly easy to tuck into boots. Flared jeans are such a pain to tuck. When it comes to tucked into boots, I think Miss Sixty does quite a good job of it in their latest campaign. Is it the denim, or does that model on the right really DOES have such skinny thighs?

Then of course, you can wear your skinny jeans as it is with heels. They effect can be fabulously slimming-like this model on the right wearing Dolce and Gabanna. This effect is also can be seen on the mannequin wearing the skinny jeans from the Stella Macartney for H&M collection. The heels don't need to be pointy, this sandal with skinny jeans look from the D Squared runway works very well too.

In fact they don't even need to be heels. They could be flats! The key is that it is slimming in itself. Like these pointy flats above by Franklin Elman. And remember, no chunky sneakers please! Ok, now that we've established the basics-time for some fun!

For that, we look towards the catwalk of the two most fashion forward names in the industry- Alexander MacQueen and Marc by Marc Jacobs. Roll up those skinny jeans-neatly to show off your funky footwear (although this one IS a bit extreme. . ) or -not-so-neatly to achieve a casually thrown together chic.

I don't know, skinny jeans might look ok on runway models, but they are not for mass consumption.

I don't know about the skinny jeans being for everybody. You kinda have to have a model's hip size to leg length ratio. Shorter women and/or women with slightly bigger hips will most probably look stumpy in them. I think it looks best on boyish figures (people with smaller hips) and taller women.

Being 1/2 hispanic I have Colombian hips so skinny jeans always make me look a bit....larger in the hip area. So whenever I wear them (because I really do love them) I just cuff them up and that normally does the trick!

skinny jeans are good to make you feel good-looking, but its quite uncomfortable especially when you have to sit down, stand up, then sit down again for several times..

Skinny jeans on skinny people! When you´re fat you look even more fatter. It´s like wearin a mini skirt. You just need perfect legs.

I looove skiiny jeans, I've always worn them even before they became soo popular, as I think they suit my body and personality. My current fav are the new Deisel Lowky... very sexy jeans, I also love sass and bide 'misfits'and the Ernest Sewn straight leg.
I own the jeans in the top miss sixty ad and I have to admit they are not that great, they are a bit too stretchy and therefore not very forgiving (think leggings). Also the butt area is HUUGE, and unless u are rocking a jlo bum it will always sag even when you buy it in the right size.

The best skinny jeans are in stretch denim, you can move, dance etc...I hope they stay around, we endured flared low riders for way too long. BTW the chick in the Miss Sixty add is not a model, it's Asia Argento, super trashy actress/director/dj.

I love my skinny jeans. Time to ditch the Boho look. What do think will be the look for the summer? Hopefully not the 80s look although I like the hair...

i don't think that stackes heels would look right with skinny jeans (unless it is a boot and you are tucking the jeans), the heel would be too out of proportion with the rest of the leg. i am totally over pointy toed shoes as well, and i think that a rounded to stiletto looks killer with skinny jeans. i have been rocking the miss sixty j lots, superdark rinse with zippers on the inner ankles, and i love them. i am looking for some rounded toe stilettos to wear with them.

I think skinny jeans look stupid. I don't look good in them, and I won't wear them. I think they look bad, even on skinny people! Why wear that? Stupid fashion fads. It looks retarded. In a year or two everyone will look back and think, "Why, oh why did I wear that???"

skinny jeans are so hot! and i dont agree that you need perfect legs...i got a size 26 in seven's roxy and i have a bit of flab in the inner thigh area...as long as you wear them with the right shoes its all good

I wear a 26 too, and I have that very curvy "hourglass" figure. I was surprised with how ok they look. I'm a little concerned about length since I'm about 5'2, so I'm thinking of getting one pair of the ankle-length cropped variety to wear with heels and tuck into boots.

HOWEVER, 26 is a very small size. It corresponds to about a 2 or 3. When people say that bigger people don't look good in skinny jeans, move your definition of "bigger" up at least 4 sizes, to at least a 30 or 32. I think enough people are going to have to sit this trend out that flares and boot-cut jeans aren't actually going to go out of style.

i'm 5 ft 7 inches and a curvy sixe 10 and they look great on me with some heels (my legs are fairly long). body is similar to a beyonce. with the more than normal hips and plump behind and all if i may say so myself. it has to do with the kind i have. my jeans are stretchy and dark. so it holds everything in and up. also its very very comfortable. b/f curvy ones rule it out just try some on and you may be surprised.

Well, I just currently bought some skinny jeans and they look fabulous. I found them at Wet Seal. They had all sorts of sizes from 0-13 and they had for petites, regular and tall. They were perfect for me since I'm short (5') and curvy (115lbs.) for my height and also they were only $20!

To be truthful, when I bought mine, I had no idea just what they were.. until I tried them on, of course. xD

I love them! I'm curvy as well.. and to be truthful, I like the way they fit. They compliment the better areas and downplay the lesser. It's a great fashion choice.

But if it ever does go out of style.. bring it back! There's many ways you can accessorize and 'demolish' to make your own unique style.

Oh people of little faith.. xD

I absolutly LOVE skinny jeans!!! I bought some last week and cant wait to wear them. i'm thinking cute flats with layered long tank tops. does anyone disagree? i am 16 years old, 5' 6 and 125 lbs. my legs are pretty normal size (size 5) but i've always had a little more gut, haha. so im hoping the long tank tops will minimize my belly.

anyway i think skinny jeans will stay around for awhile. even if they dont i'll keep wearing them.

I think skinny jeans look good on maybe 15% of the population, tops. I really hope this trend fades quickly b/c I love it and yet I can't wear it! My legs are really really short and my calves are muscular and bulbus, there is no way in hell I'd look good in these jeans. Some trends should be left out of peoples' closests. Not everyone can sport this look, even some skinny people.

I too thought I was in the unfortunate majority of people who were not meant to wear skinny jeans (I am relatively short, curvy with muscular yet somewhat short legs). I thought I looked ridiculous when I first tried a some on. They looked nothing like on some of the celebs. Kept trying them on though until I found two great pairs that fit me perfectly and which actually has a slimming effect as well as a elongating effect on the legs. (One by Siwy, which makes great jeans for curvy girls and the other by Notify) Maybe I don't look exactly like some of the model types who wear skinny jeans, but I think I look pretty good in them I would encourage people to try them too. You might be surprised.

Dude skinny jeans are awesome. Even though i dont have a pair yet... ive been looking at some stores. But they seem a little over priced. Why not find a pair of your favorite fit jeans, and customize the seam to have the "skinny" effect? It saves a whole lot of money! which is what im going to do....after i write this.

i'm 5'3" about 103, but i have wide hips for an asian girl (so that also means i have short legs). i went to old navy and bought a size 1 regular and they fit perfectly ($25). so perfectly around the hips that it was a bit of a squeeze but walking around helped stretched them out to a comfortable fit, and the legs were a good length too. it's actually in to wear stuff that is out of style so i believe skinny jeans will last.

Well, i just bought a pair at Target because i was curious and needed something to go out in tonight-thought I'd give it a try. i'm a lil nervous but open to the expierience. i'm 5'1 and 155lbs...hmmm, dunno guys-i'm on the bigger side! But after reading all that was posted here, i think i'll try it out with a pair of heels and maybe roll up the pant leg. i'll top it off with something that falls below waistline and hope for the best. i'll let you know how it goes.

I'm not one to follow trends, but recently I tried on two pairs of skinny jeans a couple of days ago at JCPenney...yes JCPenney, for a great deal and I was EXTREMELY surprised at how they looked on me. I'm about 5'4" or 5'5" and always around 113-120 lbs. and my hips aren't the smallest so I was worried about how big and stumpy-like I might look, but WOW was I wrong! They look great with my checkered shoes I've had for some time but I'm thinking about getting some black flats because those might look even better with them. Anyways, I think skinny jeans are in for a long time. It's time for something new, something other than flares.

Being 5'2" and of hourglass figure, I originally thought that skinny jeans only suited the tall, rail-thin, and ruler-shaped. So I stuck with my boot-cuts (which still look great, BTW). My curiosity got the better of me, of course, so I tried on a pair of skinnies at the Gap.

They looked awesome. They were super slimming, made my bum look great, and made my legs appear a million miles long. So they're actually quite flattering on a variety of body types.

I'm on the bigger end of the girls here... 5"11", 155 with some major tushie and wide hips. I usually wear a size tenish... sometimes an eight. Anyways, I couldn't fit most skinny jeans past my calves... so for awhile I got fed up. Now they have ones that are more forgiving in that area - I bought a pair last night that tuck everything in and I look fab! Only $50 and they're Roxy!

Heh, I took the cheap-o route- Target skinny jeans, I think they were a little bit over fifteen bucks. I really like them, though, they fit rather nicely, even if the color is a tad bit purple for my tastes. I'm 5'2, 98 pounds, fifteen, so I guess I'll wear them... Eventually... As for everyone saying they'll go out of style because not alot of people look good in them, look at the miniskirt. It takes ALOT to look good in them, and they've been in style for ages because the people that DO look good in them don't stop wearing them, and if you've got a problem with the skirt, you probably don't look good in one, so you can't start a new fad for that group, 'cause you're not in it. (Don't feel bad- I'm certantly not in that group, and I LOATE miniskirts.)

So, I'm doing a "how to wear skinny jeans" google search and come across your site ::adds to favorites::

So, I got my first pair from American Eagle today for $50! Normally I buy 7s, citizens, joe's jeans, Miss sixty etc BUT AE is my jean store when I weigh more than I should.

I like them. They have "skinny" jeans as well as "straight" for people who have bigger hips than the average person who'd wear skinny jeans. They both look awesome...they make them in stretch too.

I'm 5'8, 185 pounds, and a size 12. I have curvy hips and am doubting the skinny jeans. While looking at skinny jeans without any model, they look like they wouldn't be able to balance out my hips. With basic knowledge of fashion I can say this: For all girls , I would recomend trying a lot of different pairs on to find one that's flattering. For girls that are pear-shaped I reccomend wearing a longer top that doesn't expose the hips that much. Wearing a shorter top just accentuates the dissproportinality of your hips to the rest of your body. Don't totally rule the skinny jeans out if you are heavier, but don't wear it if it doesn't look good on you. And my number one tip: Just because it comes in your size does not mean you can wear it.

Just bought a pair of skinnys b/c I luv to be in style and they are definately "it" this season. However, I did have to go out the next day to shop for shoes to wear with them. I found the platforms with the peep toe looks very hot with skinny jeans.

I think skinny jeans look so sexy on people who have a little bit of curve. I recently baught a pair of Bettina Liano skinny jeans and I love them so much. They're dark stretch denim with white stitching and I can wear them all the time with just about everything and I get so many completments!

I've been longing to wear skinny jeans for months. I'm 5'2" and I weigh more than 120 pounds, I'm not sure exactly how much. I have wide hips and short legs. I decided to work out for a few weeks before I tried skinny jeans. I lost a little weight and decided to take the plunge. I love my skinny jeans! They make me feel so sexy. And my figure is definitely not the fashion-model type. My friends say the jeans look great on me. I think if you wear them and look like you feel good in them, you will look good no matter what your figure is like.

awesome. i love skinny jeans. i bought a pair for $19!! at Nordstrom. didn't know it would ever get that cheap there. i'm wearing them this weekend to the club w/ some friends, and i'm wearing stilettos with them. be daring. who cares what other people think?

if you're too afraid to wear them, that just means you need to grow some balls and stop thinking about what OTHER people think. they're cute, "now", and comfy.

What I love about skinny jeans is that they look so fresh. Boot-cut are flared jeans look so old. All that extra fabric around the legs looks sloppy to me now. I love the way skinny jeans follow the body. And most skinny jeans have stretch, so they're comfortable. I feel so good in skinny jeans! They make me look sexy and sharp. I guess I'd look even better if I had thinner thighs, but who cares about that.

i bought a pair of skinny jeans from gap before school started. i'm 5'5" and about 100 lbs (size 0). i've had to special order extra long jeans when i've bought from gap before, but in skinny jeans, i was able to buy a regular! i was really surprised. then i went back a few weeks ago and bought the skinny black pants. not the ankle length, because they were even shorter than they were supposed to be on me, but i also bought a grey and black striped 3/4 turtleneck. they look sooo good together and paired with dark silver flats. it's such a mod look. i love it!

Skinny jeans are supposed to be worn by people who are trying to create the illusion of a butt. The proportions make you seem fuller in the hip&butt area, making it difficult for larger woman to pull them off. Woman with larger hips and butts to begin with are supposed to wear wider legged pants to be more proportional for their body size, making them look slimmer.

I watched Oprah that one time where they had the "Right jeans for your body" segment.

I, for one, am glad to finally see some jeans that are designed for women who take pride in a good body. I eat right, work out, look great, and I want to show it off. I am so tired of American fashion designing only unflattering clothes that help overweight women hide their figures. Yay for skinny jeans!

As a woman who grew up in the 1980's, I am sooo happy skinny jeans are back in. I look at the fashion and wish I had kept all my original Guess jeans - which would actually still fit me :-)

I cannot wait to get to the store and try on the new skinnys!

I love your blog.. Good job.. I've always wanted to have a skinny jeans.. But my style is more sporty than chick.. So I've been buying some nice blouses and be prepared for the skinny jeans.. Today I went to a mall and tried some skinny jeans.. But I'm kind of thin(104 pounds) so I couldn't find a pair of jeans which will be skinny for the legs and thight to my waist.. But then I went to American Eagle and tried a pair of skinny jeans and they fit perfectly.. They were $49 or something.. so not bad for a nice pair of jeans =) And because they're stretchy they're soooooo comfortable.. I recommend them for everyone..

I got my first pair of skinny jeans yesterday and I have to admit, when I put them on, I started dancing around the store's dressing room. I got them for $16, which amazed me because the tag said $47, so we got a really good discount at JCPenney, They are Arizona Jean, and they fit sooo good. Im gonna buy a pair of chucks today to wear them with those!

*Arizona Jean girl again* I forgot to say that they have this dark grey wash, which doesnt look fake and looks like you have had them your whole life, without the rips! Also, they are stretchy but dont start to sag shortly after you wear them. Easy to walk around with, easy to sit, sooo comfy!

hi uhm yah im like 5'4 and 130 lbs and i just got a new pair of skinny jeans tht i wasnt sure about. well it ended up all good. they look great which is surprising since im about a size 5 or 7 in jeans. well i got mine at hollister for 40 bucks which i think isnt bad. i had to get them in a size 9 because their clothes are made for the smaller figure. so to you girls who said your really skinny and arent sure where to find them check out hollister you might find your dream pair their. and my advice for the girls with bigger legs try for the darkest wash you can get cuz it makes your legs look increadably thin aspecially if you pair them with some cute boots and stilletos.

hey its me again and i just wanted to add something. when your at your favorite stores if they have clearance racks always go through them cuz ive found thousands of cute stuff in all sizes and if you keep on looking you can find great things esspecially skinny jeans. sometimes it can take awhile but if you have some time check it out you might find a great pair for a cheap price. i got some very cute ones at kohls on a clerance rack and they were originally 50 bucks and they were 80% off so i got them for 10 bucks. one of my favorite pairs too.

I was actually a doubter of the skinny jean because I have big quads and relatively short legs for 5'7".

The trick is to wear skinny jeans in dark washes and with heels. The dark wash will downplay the big areas while heels will make your legs look longer and leaner. I swear by J Brand as they make some of the cleanest skinny denim around. They have nothing fancy on the back pockets, and they have variety of "skinny jeans" to choose from. If you can't make the leap, straight leg jeans are good alternatives, and they will never go out of style.

Well, I bought a pair of skinny jeans on sale at the mall for $8. I tried them on and loved them at the mall. I don't feel like jeans fit me well because I have a bigger butt and thin legs, I like my jeans to be thinner in the legs. I got home and tried them on to show my mom and decided I hated them. I'm thinking of taking them back.

I'm short (5'2/5'3) and I'm not thin, I'm a tiny bit chubby. If skinny jeans aren't for me, can someone give me advice on what jean to buy to help me with my thin leg problem?

I wouldn't wear them with super-long skinny jeans, but I think they might be fine with normal-length ones.

I just bought my first two pairs of skinny jeans, and I'm excited! I'm a size 11, and I think they look great on me. I mostly plan to wear them with longer shirts and dresses anyway, kind of like tights. It's all about fashion and how you wear them. There is simply no better way to wear jeans if you want to tuck them into ankle boots or even UGGs.

I'm 5'2" and weigh about 105 lbs. I've tried so many pairs skinny jeans from Frankie B to BDG. Frankie Bs by far are the BEST, size 2. They fit like leggings and are so low waisted. Recently bought skinny jeans by BDG from Urban. They are inexpensive ($49) and fit great also. Diesel Liv's are a bit medium waist, and their fit is okay. I even tried on J Brand, the 12" not the 14". They fit fine as well. I like the color swatch from them, especially the Charcoal. Go to Revolveclothing.com or shopbop.com for purchases. Great selections from these two websites.

When the skinny jeans first came out I hated them & had the mind-set that skinny jeans were for skinny people with no curves. I proved myself wrong the other day when I grabbed the wrong pair of jeans when I went into the dressing room. i just bought my 5th pair of skinny jeans. i love them. for people who think skinny jeans don't work on shorties they do. you may just end up having to tailor them shorter. but they work. because if you think about it. it's so much harder to tailor flares because you end up ruining the flare jeans' original silhouette. that's why i think skinny jeans go. especially for short people. and i wear flip flops with my jeans. i kinna have big feet. size 7 for a 5' person. haha but whatever. they go. just rock it right. as for tops. floaty tops are good especially since it's becoming summer. dresses/ long tunics also. and HIGH TOP CHUCKS work. i wear mine all the time. and just plain tees go with the chucks. gives you that punk look if you want.
i hope they never go out of style. but either way. i'm still wearing mine. BECAUSE FOR ONCE i find jeans that look good on me even if i fold it. i used to spend hours going through flares and bootcuts trying them on and never walking out with a pair of jeans.

hi there
after reading so many comments on your blog re skinny i am loving my pair more and more. since i am only 5'2" and weighs about 50kg, i am only petite but i do have a very tiny top body and quite a stumpy lower body (larger hips and thighs). one question, my skinny jeans sit just above my feet and just below my ankle - is this the right length? i bought a size 26 waist and 30 leg. 32 leg is a little long for me and it sort of crumpled at the bottom. i wear them with flat ballerinas or flat sandals:) x

I just tried on a pair of skinny jeans that fit for the first time two days ago. I had tried a lot on before, but they were all baggy in the leg. (I'm 5'3" & 90lbs). I have abnormally thin hips, legs & waist but a normal sized butt. For anyone around my size, try Nordstrom. Their TrueReligions are amazing, and also try the ParisBlues. They all run long, so you have to cuff or hem them, but it's worth it. I wear a size 24-25. (24's fit better but are hard to find)

However, I would never wear a t-shirt with my skinnys. I try to wear something that covers a bit of my thigh, other wise I look oddly proportioned.

if you don't want to look to skinny, i suggest maybe going to wet seal, they're skinnies aren't too tapered and small, and will bunch up a little bit giving you bottom a little more volume.

and a vibrant color(a green or a red!) flat will most likely stunt your height and make you appear less tall, thus a little less thin.

and go with flowy tops to add extra volume on your top (is what i recommend to anyone) but i'd avoid having anything too mid thigh, cause you'll have all of this volume and two twigs sticking out (haha, it will1)

so something flowy stopping mid hip is what im seeing!

All of the jeans I own and actually love to wear are considered skinny jeans. I can't find jeans that fit me otherwise. (5'3", 105lbs, size 26)

I bought every wash they had at Express in their X2 skinny jean. Their bootcut is too baggy, but I found their skinny cut fit great. I was ready to shell out $160 for one pair of J Brand jeans but I found 3 pairs of jeans at Express for $40 each.

Although I'm very thin, I consider myself to be more bottom heavy. Despite this, I think skinny jeans makes my legs look longer and makes my butt look in proportion.

I bought a black denim wash, which I'm not sure what to wear with. Any suggestions for a cute nighttime look with black skinny jeans?

hey everyone
I weigh about 100 pounds and am 14 years old. The skinny jean wont make you look too skinny unless you make it. Wear them with flowy tops that are not snug on you and you will look great. Don't buy the first pair of jeans you try on, shop around to find the perfect jean for you and your body type. Try them with funky flats, cute heels, or tuck them in a boot for really cute looks. I hope everyone loves their skinny jeans! If you are doubting what you would look like in them, try a pair on and look at yourself in a mirror. Be bruttaly honest with yourself and dont just get them because everyone else has them.

With a white skinny jean i would do fun bright colors with funky shoes.

I'm cheap and not used to paying more than $20 for pants, so I got some old jeans that were a bit torn up but still fit, and sewed them up to skinny jean style. I had tried some on at stores before but they just didn't look right. I think this style looks best if the jeans are a darker blue, or black, and are worn with high heels.

I love skinny jeans..they look great with converse and vans. But for awhile i was having a really hard time finding a pair that fit properly. I have bigger thighs, from competetive swimming, and smaller calves, and waist, so i would find a pair that fit my thighs but be to baggy in the calves. Bluenotes, I'm pretty sure it's only a Canadian store has some good fits. Even if they do go out, I think i'll still wear them, they look good. Anyone can wear them I think, you just need the right fit and a top that has the right length hemline. Simple as that.

i am about 5 ft tall and slightly muscular in the legs, i'm a size 1-3, and i just bought skinny jeans from forever 21. they are fabulous. if your short and/or muscular just stick to a dark blue. the ones i got are really dark and they make me look taller and leaner. just because your short doesnt mean u shouldnt wear skinny jeans. u actually should, because they make u look taller.

I am 17, I've had a pair of skinny jeans since 2006, ibought them from New Look in the UK for 23pounds which is pretty darn good. they are dark indigo/blue, at first i was weary of them and wore them once or twice around christmas '06, now i am soo totally into the look ad they make he bottom of my legs reall slim - they show off the good part rather than making ur legs look huge with bootleg jeans. i agre wih someone above who said that if you have wider hips (like me) its better wearing a top, or layers that cver ur stomach and the top of the jeans so you dont show a 'muffin top', skinny jeans forever! woohoo! x x x

I just bought my first pair of skinny jeans from express for about $69.50 a few weeks ago. I usually pair them with sandals, ballet flats, or boots. They look amazing no matter what, theyre so cute. Anyone with a sense of fashion comments on them. Im 5'9 and they accentuate my long legs amazingly! If you dont have a pair, go buy some! You wont regret it.

I think its stupid how alot of people think you can only pull skinny jeans off if you're skinny and/or tall! I'm a uk size 8 and i am 5'3 and i look great in skinny jeans just as gd if not better than most tall people ive seen wearing them! You dont have to be a model to wear stuff you want to thats just crazy! And everyone knows its more feminine to be 5'5 than flippn 6'0 etc. Not that i am saying thats a bad thing im just saying its very over rated and dont let it fool you cause they're the girls pictured on cat walks etc i mean who are these people anyway?! Try them on before buying if they look good then great buy them =]

I think if you have the confidence to try it, you can opull it off. It's not about what you wear it's about how you wear it. tho i have to say, i love the look with platforms it look too try-hard i wear mine with a long loose top or backless top otherwise you look "drowned" in fabric. i usually wear mine with flats as i think it looks better, and i've seen a few girls with converse, which looks really cool as well....

Okay. One. anyone can wear skinny legged jeans as long as they aren't obese. I mean. They can wear them if they can find them. But they'll only make their hips look bigger. But hey, if you can pull it off, more power to you.
I'm 5'7'' and 178lbs and it's all muscle from 8 years of swimming and weight training. So my thighs and calves are really muscular. But I can pull off skinny jeans. They make my butt look bigger (which I don't mind lol) and make my legs look slimmer. And when I tuck them into my black knee high 4" boots, it makes my legs look even slimmer.

So, if you're not amazingly skinny or average skinny and you still want to wear skinny jeans. Do it.Try tucking into a pair of tall boots or wearing tall heels. It'll make you look slimmer and help pull off the skinny jeans.

Also, for the main thing. Why can't you wear skinny jeans with sneakers? Skater kids have been pulling it off for decades.

It's not runway chic but most of us aren't going to be running down a runway anytime soon. So don't just kick out sneakers with skinny jeans because people on runways don't do it.

Thanks :]

>>Becca

p.s. Converse with skinny legged jeans might make your feet look big if you wear something like.. 9 or 10 in womens. But other than that, they look very cute with them :]

okay so all these comments i've been reading are really unhelpful to me in the long run. it's always like that for me, it seems like when a person has one problem, they don't have the other, so they play one thing up and stuff.

i'm 5'2'' and a size 11, but my body type (on ivillage you can find it out, mine's a ruler) makes it so i DON'T look wide from the front. my main weight is at my stomach, and my limbs are pretty skinny (i have pcos, which is why i gain my weight at my tummy), so when i see all these things about bigger hips and thighs and stuff it confuses the hell outta me. i'm not a size one but i don't have j lo's ass or wide hips or anything.

the closest i've bought to a skinny jean was a straight-leg, which was more tapered than a bootcut but not skin-tight like the skinny jeans. i got them at old navy. and they looked good - my legs, which are pretty short, looked leaner and longer in them, even in flats (my ankles are thin and often too weak for heels).

so this is what i'm here to ask. will the loose-fitting tops be forgiving enough for where i gain weight or am i doomed to wear flares and look even shorter than i am? i've come to learn that capris and straighter-legged jeans look best on me.

anyone else have this problem?

If you have the confidence, skinny jeans are great. I'm 43 years old, 5'6", 130 pounds with only slightly long legs. I wear stretchy DKNY skinny jeans (size 6 long). One thing nice about longs is the higher rise on the hips - makes me feel like I'm less likely to 'expose' myself when sitting.
On days when I'm feeling that my rear is too big, I add a beautiful 3/4 length nehru-style red tapestry jacket. The effect is really striking.

I really like skinny jeans I'm 29yr old, 5'8, and 125 pounds. I’ve very thin I wear a size 0 to a 2 so wide leg jeans sometimes make me look bulky (I have found some that look good on me) but skinny jeans are very flattering. If some one said tomorrow that skinny jeans are out I think women will still wear them hell I was wearing skinny jeans in middle school. All of these tends seem to be repeating themselves so I don’t pay much attention to any of it. The Red Jeans tend Bongo made colored jeans back when I was in high school I bought a pair of straight leg red jeans by Bongo in 1996, the gray trend did that in 2000, leopard print is not a trend in my opinion it's a classic. Wear what you like if it looks good on you and you feel good about it then who cares what anybody else thinks. This is a helpful site but the only way you’ll no what looks good is if you go out to the store grab a bunch of jeans and start trying them on. After trying on several different pairs from many stores I found that I like Express the best so I bought two pair one in black and another in a dark rinse.

I'm probably a LOT bigger than most of the people posting here.....I'm a size 18.

I loved the look of skinny jeans but didn't dare try them on because everyone said chubby chicks would just look terrible. I recently got up the galls to wear them and love them! I have a nice pair with a great texture, just a bit of stretch, and a dark wash. I wear them with heels and layered tops and they do look good!

It's true, if you have the confidence you can wear them...even if you're not a size 5.

Hey Anna,
im so with you. I'm a soon to be fashion student and well im also about a size 18 although sometimes a size 16, And i think if you have the confidence to wear them even being bigger then go ahead, and they work well sometimes, if you are a plus size girl just try and find dark washes or even black, black skinny jeans are very easy to match and slimming, Try Torrid out if you are plus and want some goo d skinnies :)

I think skinny jeans look elegant. An outfit can be very slimming with narrow legged jeans, if the proportions are right. But also, I enjoy seeing something new on the streets. i mean come on... people have been wearing wide/flared pants scince the show "Blossom". That was a very long time ago. seems sort of sad to not have to switch your look around twenty years later. All new stuff takes getting used to, but its a good thing in the long run. Ilike to keep my top a bit longer so my hips are covered, and I wear pointy toed shoes weather they are in or not with skinny pants. It creates a very long lean line. Now I wouldn't wear bootcut any more then I would wear a heavy platform boot.

J Brand makes the best skinny jeans. I've been wearing them for years and just discovered this brand. My favorite in the collection is the 910 ankle. I am 5'6 140lbs. They look amazing with a longer top. They fit so tight, but don't look like leggings. I got so many compliments. They are really great but on the pricey side, about $160. So worth it though.

I guess anyone could wear skinny jeans. You just have to pair with the right shoes. Like if you're skinny & tall, don't wear skinny jeans with pointy heels. (Got that from Seventeen Mag!)

I'm curvy (5'9" 155 size 10) and most of my jeans that I wear lately are boot or skinny. I like going to hardcore/indie shows and its a part of the fashion. I really like the flats and skinny jeans look. You could try them with vans slip ons, keds, maybe even skater shoes. Skaters and hardcore kids have been wearing these forever, big and small, you just gotta rock em.

I wanted to get everyone's opinion - I recently bought a pair of black skinny sateen pants from Old Navy (on sale for just $20!). Anyway, I am 5'8" and usually wear pants with the "long" inseam, but these are just the "regular" length. When I wear them with heels, the pants don't hang past my ankle at all...normally I like pants to hang over the shoe a bit, but I think this might be ok. Do you all wear longer skinny pants/jeans, or do you think the shorter length is ok??

Hey, of course I love skinny jeans, and I mean for anyone who feels good about them, not just tall skinny models. In fact I happen to think they look best on petite women, not tall ones. They look good on my tall friends too, tho..
What I wanted to say was about some comments people have saying that they saw a fashion show, or they think that people with certain body shape are SUPPOSED to wear this or that for proportion. And I just want to answer-USE YOUR OWN EYES, ladies. Style is about expressing yourself and being daring. I now tons of people who do not follow these stupid rules for their supposed shape and who are elegant and gorgeous all the time. All kids of different things work.

I live in skinny jeans, and I am not skinny. In fact I think they look best on women that are not stick thin. Where flared leg jeans hug the thighs and leave evrthing else covered, skinny jeans show the calves and ankles of the person, and that draws attenton proportionately everywhere. Very few women think their thighs are their best feature. Skinny legs make you look taller and thinner. And they look elegant. Wide legs are sloppy and make everyone loo wode.

What's this rubbish about not being allowed to wear chunky sneakers with skinny jeans? This is absolute bullsh*t. Sure skinnies look great with boots, flats or heels but one of the hottest looks right now is a pair of skinnies with sneakers. From a slim pair of converse chuck taylors to some sweet nike high tops, skinny jeans look great with them. Even most skate shoes look good with skinnies, I wear my fashion sneakers with skinny jeans pretty much everyday. I'm very short and quite curvy but I think skinnies make me look slimmer than flared and wide leg pants. Start your own trends people, though I do admit that wearing skinny jeans at the moment isn't exactly unique, but they can be made special with your own style, individuality is sweet!

Pacsun has great jeans. But if your short like me then you would get Charlotte Russe skinny jeans. I wear a size zero and im only five feet tall which means most jeans are way to long on me. But when i get jeans from Charlotte Russe i get a size 1 short or 3 short depending on the style. They fit perfect!(:

to the person who said that the skinny jeans don't look good on them, and they'll never wear them, and they look retarded on other people, if you WERE skinny I'm sure that you would wear them, so stop being rude to people just because you're not happy with your own body. I LOVE SKINNY JEANS! and I personally think they look great on people! Try a heel with them if you are on the shorter side, and if you're tall, try flats. looks great!
